Guest Speaker: Nihal Perera (IBM)

Nihal PereraNihal has been working at IBM since February 2000. During his first eleven years, he worked as Pre-Sales Technical Support for IBM Hardware in Singapore. He, then, transferred to IBM Canada in February 2011 and is currently IT Infrastructure Management Consultant. Soon after his arrival in Canada, Nihal was appointed as the IBM liaison to TUG, an appointment that makes him a TUG board member.

IBM i Access Client Solutions is the newest member of the IBM i Access family. It provides a Java based, platform-independent interface that runs on most operating systems that support Java, including Linux, Mac, and Windows.... Read More Read More

Guest Speaker: Dr. Frank Soltis

Dr Frank SoltisFrank Soltis (born 1940), an American computer scientist, was IBM's Chief Scientist for the System i computers. Based on his PhD research, his pioneering architecture of technology-independent machine interfaces (TIMI) and single-level stores has appeared in these eight generations of IBM hardware: System/38 in 1978, the CISC AS/400 in 1988, the RISC AS/400 in 1995, the web server AS/400e in 1999 (supporting HTTP and TCP/IP), the eServer iSeries, the System i5, the System i, and IBM Power Systems running IBM i (April, 2008).

As the IBM i just celebrated its 25th anniversary last June, it could be time to review 'some' of the best features it has come up with in those years and how it (IBM i) and they (great features) contributed to the technology in general .... and "what's next"..... Read More Read More
