5:00 Session 1: IBM i - Don't be left behind in the Mobile Revolution

  • Rahim will talk about the hot topic of mobile for business. Learn why it's important for you to get on board with extending your business to mobile along with the challenges and considerations for choosing the right solution. He'll discuss:
    • Why mobile
    • Business benefits
    • Current mobile environment and associated challenges – time to market(TTM) and total cost of ownership(TCO)
    • Leveraging your smart device apps through native API integration – camera/scanner, geolocation, phone etc.
    • Management and security related to mobile deployment
    • Considerations on choosing the right solution.
  • Rahim Lalani is a Professional Services Project Lead at LANSA, a leading provider of application development and integration software.  Rahim  has over 11 years of international Professional Services experience within North America, the Caribbean and Europe where he has worked with numerous clients to design and implement enterprise-scale applications, taking advantage of the latest technologies for application modernization, integration, automation and mobile development.  In his role as an engagement and project manager, Rahim leverages his business experience and technical expertise to establish, design and manage technology projects across various business verticals including insurance, finance, manufacturing, retail and distribution.  He has also authored and delivered numerous articles and conference presentations.

7:00 Session 2: - Extend your DDS/RPG skills to the World of Mobile App Development

  • Paul will delve deeper into the technical realm of mobile development on the IBMi, and how simple it can be to create a native app using RPG.
    He will provide insight into:
    • The Evolution of Mobile devices and Technology - Apple, Android, Blackberry… Windows 8
    • Overview of multiple deployment options including Web (Safari, Chrome, Opera, others), Hybrid and Native apps
    • Programming and publishing Requirements and Considerations
    • Pros and cons of JQuery Mobile, Objective C for Apple, Java for Android
    • Examples of extending the IBMi to Mobile using browser, web mobile and native apps
    • A Practical demonstration of an DDS/RPG driven native mobile app
  • Paul McDonald is a Professional Services Manager at LANSA, a leading provider of application development and integration software.   Paul has extensive experience on the IBM midrange platform as both a developer and project manager over the last 30 years. He has authored and delivered numerous presentations, labs and training sessions at COMMON, LANSA and other conferences. During his 12 years at LANSA, Paul has played a pivotal role in delivering efficient, strategic and often "bleeding-edge" business solutions for many of the company's clients.  From as far back as 2002 Paul has been working with customers wanting to deploy mobile solutions that integrate with the IBM i server in both store/forward and persistent connectivity environments.   Prior to joining LANSA, Paul spent close to 20 years managing a highly successful out sourcing and applications service provider that utilized wireless technologies for capture and delivery.
