TEC 2010 Update:register

A few insider tips for TEC 2010

There are a few new sessions that have come up in the past week that I wanted to inform you of. These may or may not be directly related to IBM i.. but they could be of high value to you. Feel free to share this with your staff.

  • IBM is unveiling their Smart Business appliance in Toronto at the conference. Not only will IBM’s Amy Anderson talk about it in session 12A “IBM Smarter Appliances for Smarter Business”, but IBM will be bringing the appliance and providing private demos in a special room we have organized. The Smart Business appliance has many of the traditional advantages of iSeries for SMB customers (highly integrated, applications-centric, easy to run and operate) but comes in a package which is Web 2.0 and Cloud-ready. It comes in Linux and IBM i flavours.
    • IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN THIS... PLEASE LET ME KNOW and I will help you book an appointment.
  • TEC 2010 will feature IBM’s Solution Architect for Mobile Applications Practice, Mahmood Ashek, from the Toronto Innovation center to show off the marvellous new iPhone and BlackBerry mobile apps for the enterprise. This will be a fascinating session and is well in tune with our Mobile and BlackBerry enablement theme.
    • Let me know  you are interested in MOBILE sessions and I will be happy to act as your concierge for our TEC 2010 program.
  • Our own TUG community members want to share in their success with deployment of Commercial Open Source for IBM systems in a customer-led session. John Brenton and Mike Mondoux from Seaway Marine, are featured in session 25E and 26E, demonstrating how they deployed MediaWiki on IBM i to solve major content management issues.
    • John’s sessions are on Wednesday April 28,  2:30 – 5:15
  • I want to make sure you are aware of just how good Joel Tendler is and how fortunate we are to have him come. If you liked Frank Soltis, and miss him at TUG, you’ll want to check out Joel’s three sessions. He is intimately familiar with the POWER microprocessor architecture and virtualization technologies and has the knack of explaining it and elucidating the business benefit while getting us to THINK and stir up creative juices.
    • Joel’s sessions are 12D, 15G and 23A
  • You probably know by now, but TUG scored a real coup by getting the co-author of PHP and co-founder of Zend, Zeev Suraski, to be a keynote speaker at TEC. If you are interested in PHP at all.. COME.
  • Two important sessions have no charge and we encourage you and all interested parties to come:

What exactly is the location of TEC this year?
Is there Parking?

TEC 2010 is at the York University Keele St. Campus in the Stephen E Quinlan Building. This is technically “Seneca@York”.   The facilities are new and very modern.

The Executive Breakfast is at the Schulich School of Business (also part of York) and diagonally across from the SEQ building.

There is ample and convenient parking in a covered garage.  The problem is that it costs $15.00..... BUT....  we are providing  full parking vouchers for all paid attendees.

Its easy to get to from HWY 407... just take the Keele exit South.

More location information is in the blog at http://tec20ten.wordpress.com/category/location/
