ABSTRACTS: Session 1 (5:00 PM)Integrating Node.js and IBM i One of the best parts of Node.js is that it compliments traditional IBM i programs so well. But it can be difficult to know how to actually integrate your existing RPG, C, and COBOL programs with your new fancy Node.js applications. In this session we will look at different ways of connecting a Node.js application to IBM i resources like programs and Db2 for i. Particular attention will be paid to the various database connectors available to you, including the Node.js ODBC connector. We will conclude with a sample application the leverages Node.js to do cool, modern things while still connecting to and running an RPG program and get data from a Db2 for i table using ODBC. By the end, you should see that integrating Node.js with your other applications couldn't be simpler! Session 2 (7:00 PM)Kafka and IBM i Apache Kafka touts itself as "an open-source distributed event streaming platform used by thousands of companies for high-performance data pipelines, streaming analytics, data integration, and mission-critical applications." If that doesn't immediately make sense, then come to this talk! Mark has broken down all of the core components of Kafka into simple concepts that we will use to build our knowledge from the ground up. We will not only learn what Kafka is and how it works, but also how we can use it (easily!) on IBM i and with IBM i. We will conclude with a demo that will reinforce all of the learning we have done. By the end, you will feel completely demystified about Kafka and have a strong sense of where it can fit in your overall application strategy.
• 7:00 PM Session 2 - Kafka and IBM iNOTE: Once your registration is confirmed, you will receive an email with the meeting link, meeting ID, and password.
